China is using the AI driven weather modification system to twist nature in order to water certain areas and bring sunlight to some other. But what was supposed to be Beijing’s experimental genius is quickly turning into a disaster and the recent flood in Guizhou is its latest example.
China’s unfiltered AI-prompted manipulation in multiple fields is turning scary. Though China was using tech to control weather since many years, but introduction of AI has now made nature unpredictable. China uses some complex methods to control weather using AI. First, massive data records from satellite feeds and atmospheric sensors are captured and fed to AI machine learning models. Targeted draught stricken areas are zeroed on and AI directs multiple drones to induce rainfall in these areas. Each drone follows the location coordinates and reaches its destination to induce artificial rainfall. Each drone is loaded with silver iodide flares, heat projectors, and electromagnetic pulse generators used to manipulate weather.
Though AI-driven weather control was supposed to be a ‘greatest of all time’ technology but seeing what it is doing to nature it seems the idea has backfired and China’s own people are suffering. Unstoppable rain has triggered floods in many areas,rivers are flowing above danger levels, cities are submerged, highways are destroying, and, importantly, its own citizens are drowning. This begs questions regarding safety of China’s AI-driven climate control measures.
In June this year torrential rain was at its peak. China’s Guizhou and some other provinces in southwest were the worst hit. Guizhou province, which once was a tourist delight now stands completely destroyed. Reports suggest that Rongjiang city in Guizhou province was affected the most prompting China rapid response teams to initiate evacuation at war scale. Over 80,000 civilians lost their homes, 40,000 were rescued, and 6 were reported to have lost their lives in floods in last 2 months. Moreover, unexpected torrential rains have swelled 13 major rivers in Yunnan, Guizhou, Guangxi, and Hainan resulting in major infrastructure loss.
Today there are concerns regarding China’s weather modification programs not just in China but also at global footing. These climate control measures can trigger regional disturbance and destroy ecosystems that goes beyond China’s borders resulting in geopolitical tension. China’s “Sky River” weather modification project in Tibetan plateau is a recent example of how such use of AIcan disturb regional peace by depriving one region of rainwater so that other can be facilitated. The project is aiming to transfer up to 5 billion cubic metres of water annually from the Yangtze river, to feed the inland river systems further north, including the Yellow river basin.
Reports from the Chinese Meteorological Administration (CMA) reveals that already over 500 ground-based generators are installed to seed clouds over the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau. This controversial project is expected to cover 1.6 million kilometers of area. However, due to secrecy, not much information is available on it. China is in a race to control weather and is not at all concerned about repercussions globally. Only robust international laws that can monitor China’s weather programs that impacts region up to 200 kilometers can ensure safety from environmental impact it triggers across provincial and international borders.
Not just globally but China is also impacted internally big time due to its activities to re-write weather programs. Chinese provinces such as Henan, Guanxi and Shaanxi are pointing fingers at each other for diverting rainfall away from their areas, which they are calling ‘cloud theft’. Though there are water and meteorology laws in place in China to govern jurisdictional conflicts between the central and local governments, but targeted weather modification has often resulted in conflict over ownership of atmospheric resources.
Experts believe that China by using AI-driven weather modification is also re-writing geopolitics in the clouds. With no borders and no control China is playing God against nature and its regional players. AI, which was supposed to secure humanity in hands of China, has become a threat. But nature has come back hard at machines spreading havoc in China’s own backyard and neighboring nations. The impact of manipulative weather programs can be felt in countries like Philippines, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India. But for China, this is all about power. A power to alter ecosystems, decide rainfall, and, obviously, to weaponize the sky. China’s untraceable AI-driven control in the sky is more dangerous than war.
